No Title

I want to flourish here and now

A blossom in its prime.

But happiness, I must allow

Goes in and out in time.

For joy is not a given state,

A height, or destination,

But something you must cultivate

With daily fascination.

Patient tilling can be slow

And some find it abhorrent

But the seed you sow will only grow

In ground that’s fertile for it.

And even after days and nights

Of careful ministration

No fires of passion will ignite

Without, first, pollination.

Rely upon the friendly bee,

The flower propagator

But not every flower’s vibrancy

Attracts a pollinator.

So though I am imperfect,

I repose awhile

I take the time to self

And appreciate my style.

And when one is anointed

With such appreciation

From self, or one appointed,

It’s the spark of glad creation.

And every spark, once realized,

Regardless of the reason,

Must oscillate and vernalize,

And each thing in its season.

Perennial Joy

Is this a perennial joy?

I’m just a stressed out millennial boy.

Too afraid to throw my heart in

Ever since you tended my garden.

All the strength and religion it took

I read every horticulture book

But we still whither away

The second seasons change.

Now I choose the seeds that I sow

And till the place they will go

Try to give the right attention

Wait with bated aprehension.

Someone tell me the equation

Is this just vernalization?

And when this lover’s winter ends

Will we be something more than friends

A bud, a bloom, some sign of vigor

Will I be me or something much bigger…

Is this what happiness takes

Or just another heart mistake?

What kind of gardener are you

Without my garden to tend to?

Monsters and Angels

If you’re a monster, then I’ll build you a city to destroy.

There’s much more evil in this world than the love between two boys.

And you can climb a tower

And I will be Fae Ray if you desire

And if you let me I will show you

Cause any heaven without you there is just another hell.

And I will play the trumpet

And I will lead the charge on Calgary

If I think for just one moment

You’re too selfish, I’m too thoughtless

We’re both too insecure.

If these are symptoms of an illness

Our love might be the cure.

We don’t have to suffer

We can choose to let go of our pain

And if it takes awhile to get there

If you’re a failure then the test was politically skewed.

If fame and fortune is what matters, then everybody’s screwed.

Our hearts don’t have equations

Our souls aren’t constellations we can map

Different things are different

And different isn’t something to erase

You often say that I should leave you and find a better man.

The thing is, baby I don’t want to. Even if I can.

So what if I’m mistaken

So what if I am taking things too far?

The point is simply that I love you

Just the way you are.

We’ve walked a many mile together, tethered, you and I.

You gave your all, and now your soul is weathered, same as mine.

The things we’ve seen and things we’ve done, the places we have been

Impart a part to you and I, embedded deep within.

And you and I, as we have been, won’t always be the same.

As the more than we adventure, the more you’re rendered lame.

But if I had to do again the things I’m meant to do,

I’d do them all with you, my friends, you were my favorite shoes.

Candidly Canine

Looking for a harness for a bad, bad dog

Who sniffs out places he doesn’t belong,

Who digs up the past

When nobody asked

And drags it all over the lawn.

Looking for a trainer for an unruly beast

Who declines to align when put on a leash.

When emotions get real,

He refuses to heal

Before sniffing out the next piece.

Looking for a box for a mongrel heart

Who treats getting mistreated like some kind of art

Who thinks it unhallowed

To be led and not followed

And cannot be stopped once it starts.

Looking for a curb for a heart in a box

Where people might pass it by as they walk.

I’ll swallow my pride

And write free on the side

So maybe someone picks it up.

Deep Water

In waters too deep

For lupidity creep

Most intriguing and elegant beasts.

Crepescule in feature,

Tentacular creatures

Awaiting a submarine feast.

Where tendril and frond

Curl from inky beyond

Reaching out from primordial lurk.

It may seem unadorned,

But do be forewarned,

There are teeth hiding under the murk.

Should an unheeding ray

To their miry hide stray

What wonders both odd and obsurd

Could perchance be beheld

In this deepwater delve

Though returning from such is unheard.

Side by Side

You’re putting your foot in my shoe.

We can share

It’s alright,

Take turns;

Compromise.

But we can’t change the size,

So stop whining.

You’re not doing the best you could do.

You can’t spare,

Use my dime,

It’s not fair,

But it’s fine.

I was made by design

To keep shining.

I don’t mind moving over for you.

But be kind,

And repose;

You might step on my toes

And out holes in the soles

Or the lining.
